An evolution . . .
We started as a church plant connected to a larger organization, meeting in a home until space became too tight. We relocated our gatherings to a small chapel on Western Seminary’s campus. But the pandemic compelled us to relocate again, eventually putting us back in the home we had orginally met in. That’s where we meet these days, in an East Portland home located near the Glendoveer golf course (near NE 148th & Glisan).
At the beginning, we were carrying on various preaching and music traditions we’d become used to through average American church life. Then the pandemic hit, and it offered a moment to rethink and recalibrate. Our gatherings have since become less like a regular church “service” and more like a community engaged in ongoing conversations about Jesus, the Scriptures, and life in general.
Each week, we engage with the Scriptures outlined for that Sunday in the Revised Common Lectionary, and while our pastor or others may offer prepared thoughts or a dedicated teaching, the majority of our time gets focused on sharing with, and listening to, one another.
